THE POWER OF YOUR CV

Your CV has the power to make or break your chances of being invited for an interview, and even jobs that are found by word-of-mouth require a CV at some stage.

There are many reasons to ensure you have a good, professional CV, and the bottom line is that, if you develop it with the appropriate importance and time, it will improve your chances of being invited to interviews considerably.

Just a few reasons why you need a good CV

  • No matter what job, or in which industry you’re applying for, you will need a CV in the process of the application. Even jobs that some people consider ‘low-end’ will ask for your CV, and jobs that are found through word-of-mouth also require a CV (sooner, or later in the recruitment process)

  • Your CV shows and tells who you are and is, essentially, your personal sales brochure. No matter how good a service or product is, if it is not presented to reflect the benefits of the product or service, it will not have much impact

  • The job market is competitive and that means you will be competing for a single job with at least a few dozen other highly-qualified and job-hungry applicants – hence the importance of recognizing the importance of your CV and ensuring it stands out

What we will do

Our CV writing strategy

Our strategy is to ensure that your CV has the elements that recruiters pay attention to the most.

This means that we make sure that recruiters do not give up on reading a long-winded resume and get to the nitty gritty information easily from a clear, well-structured layout.

There are several things to consider - if you are using your CV for networking purposes, your CV needs to showcase your job search goals; and if you are using your resume to apply for a specific position, your CV needs be focused on the requirements of the role. Either way, your CV needs to be your marketing tool.

Our strategy is to ensure your CV meets the necessary requirements to be effective and consider feedback from the industry.

At the outset, your CV needs to convey an effective summary - omitting a summary from a CV is almost like walking into an interview and refusing to answer the general question, “Tell me about yourself.” Your summary offers your readers a big picture and perspective of your career brand and candidacy and, as such, should highlight your strongest brand attributes. However, it needs to be well-written, brief, and clear.

Key words are vital and need to be in an easy-to-read fashion, specific and relate to throughout the body of your CV, and your CV needs to have an effective structure using lean sentences and short points that will not burden the recruiter with far too much information and too many levels of detail.

Another key quality of a good CV is that it separates position descriptions from achievements, and details are optimised for readability.

We will make sure that your CV meets these criteria.
